The U11 Mixed Tackle team is the age group where we introduce scrums (no pushing/not competitive) and focus on tackling and ruck work. We try to help improve their understanding of the laws around the ruck area and to help them improve their ruck technique as well as the the discipline of reloading in order to complete multi-phased plays. There are more opportunities for competitive games both inter-squad and against visiting teams or at tournaments.
The U13 Mixed Tackle team includes athletes who have a good basic understanding of multi-phase play with knowledge of where they should be on the filed, good ruck technique, and a developing understanding of defensive systems. We introduce competitive scrummaging and line-outs (no jumping) and focus on improving the basic skills of catch, pass, tackle and ruck. The team has numerous opportunities to play visiting clubs and schools and attend numerous tournaments throughout the year.
The U15 Boys Tackle team is the age group in which we start to place emphasis on set piece work including competitive scrummaging and lineouts (lifting). Our athletes practice set plays from set piece and develop their skill sets across all areas of the game including kicking while building physicality. The U15 have an active schedule of matches against visiting teams and participation in tournaments.
The U17 Boys Tackle team have good proficiency in all areas of the game. Therefore, the focus is to trying to develop their physicality at key collision/contact points as well as developing their understanding of game management, strategy and set-plays. While there is still an emphasis on improving key skills, the key focus is on executing them at pace and with strong physicality. The U17 attend numerous tournaments covering both Tens and Sevens rugby.
The U19 Boys Tackle team includes many athletes who typically represent their schools at the Varsity level. At this age group the emphasis is on improving their physicality and working on developing cohesion with their fellow team players based on an agreed team style/strategy of play. We have had a number of players who have gone onto higher honors after graduating from our U19 Tackle team.
The U7 Mixed Tackle team is for young athletes who are learning to play rugby for the first time. Emphasis is on having fun and learning the basic skills of catch, pass and tackle.
The U9 Mixed Tackle team builds on the basic skills of catch and pass developed in U7s and expands our players understanding of how to form a back line, how to protect the ball at ruck time, how to present the ball when tackled and how to make a safe and effective tackle on the ball carrier. At U9 we introduce some game play including inter-squad and against visiting teams.
